The house was originally a rubber plantation, and upon the death of their mother, the plantation was converted to the now legendary gardens. The House is mainly done with cement, and the front door of the house is set of large bamboo hedges and the house is almost invisible to the eye. The roof of the house is concealed by magnificent white bougainvilleas. The house has a lot of art work done by Bewis Bawa, and many other work by other artists are featured too.
