The Singapore Discovery Centre was designed as an immersive experience for both adults and children of the city state to find out everything there is to know about their city. Through the use of imaginative and innovative interactive multimedia techniques and devices, visitors are provided with glimpses of the country’s past, its present and future and factors that influence this process, their place in it and how they can influence the process.

Fifteen exhibits deal with various aspects of the city state. Starting with Gateway, where a storytelling format is used to show the key events that shaped the history of Singapore. A game show format, music and dance are employed to highlight the diversity of the city state and to make Singaporeans aware of the culture and heritage of their compatriots. Even the Merlion, the country’s national symbol is employed to put across what it means to be Singaporean through a fun song and dance routine. Old news reports form the basis for Reporter for a Day allowing anyone with a good grasp of English, Malay, Mandarin or Tamil to ‘report’ on these stories in front of a live camera and to enjoy the playback whilst checking out their performance. Insights into how the country is governed are presented in Portals. Singapore’s big hopes and dreams despite its small size form the basis of The Little Red Dot. Players of Enterprise Quest are challenged to make bold decisions to reap rewards. Spectacle, billed as an audio visual show involves a large orb that comes alive every 15 minutes with images of Singapore indicating its global aspirations while rooted to its culture. In Smart Show viewers engage in a game of banter with virtual host George Junior and discover their ‘smarts’ and how to use it for the benefit of their nation. 24/7 is an audio tribute to the many who toil in various professions in the city state to make it a better place. A range of sounds that depict the many professions in Singapore can be identified here. The Crisis Simulation Theatre is just that.
