The James Bond Island or Koh Tapu first came into the limelight after its starring role in the Bond movie ‘The Man with the Golden Gun’. After this popular appearance, it has become the most famous landmark of Phang Nga Bay. A distinct feature of this famous bay is the sheer limestone cliffs that jut out vertically from the sea-green water.

The Phang Nga Bay covers 400 square kilometers and it consists of one hundred islands. Many of these islands can make its way to the Guinness book of record due to it’s beauty and significant shape. The James Bond Island has become a major attraction since it was featured in 1974. This island is under national park protection and as a result, no boats of any kind are allowed to go too close to the island because of its precarious position.

If you are staying in a luxury resort Phuket such as the Point Yamu by COMO, Phuket, Thailand, Phang Nga Bay is a close attraction to visit. Most organized tours to the James Bond Island are combined with visits to other famous islands and also include excursions such as sailing and kayaking. If you prefer private tours you can rent a long-tail boat from the Surakul pier which will cost a little less than 2000 baht and you can sail away for a good two to three hours. This boat can carry up to ten passengers.
