The Jurong Bird Park is a massive bird park located in Singapore. It is the world’s largest bird park in terms of bird population and is the second biggest when considering the area of land (which stands at around fifty acres). In total there are over five thousand birds from nearly four hundred different species residing here. Twenty nine of them are threatened bird species. Located on Jurong Hill the park has become a popular tourist attraction ever since it opened in 1971. It is considered a ‘must see’ and no trip to Singapore can be considered complete without stopping by here.
The avian park is divided into several exhibits. The Birds of Prey Show features magnificent prey birds such as falcons, hawks and eagles. The Birds N Buddies Show is a bird show put on by several species of birds including pelicans, mimicking cockatoos and flamingos. Visitors can watch in awe as these birds are put through a simulated hunt. The African Wetlands and the African Waterfall Aviary features a plethora of birds from Africa such as shoebills and turacos.
Other exhibits include Lory Loft, Penguin Coast, the Southeast Asian Birds Aviary and World of Darkness, which features nocturnal birds such as Snowy Owls and Night Herons. The avian park also has a special exhibit dedicated to flightless birds such as ostriches, rheas, and emu. The park is open daily between 8.30 am and 6 pm and is easily accessible by public transport. As it is quite a large place visitors should consider using the park’s website to plan their trip in advance. Feeding the birds is strictly prohibited.
Small and easy to explore yet full of fun things to do and interesting places to see, it is no wonder that Singapore is a tourist favourite. The island also has excellent public transport facilities and it is quite easy to find a good place to stay. However, tourists looking for something different from the usual hotels can try Singapore serviced apartments. One can find a good serviced apartment Singapore at the Somerset Bencoolen Singapore. The building boasts a central location and is situated close to exquisite restaurants, shopping malls and an MRT station.
