A famous public aquarium in the gorgeous city of Auckland, Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World is an invention of Kelly Tarlton- an extraordinary marine archaeologist, diver, adventurer, inventor and explorer, who had a desire of sharing his love of the ocean with others. This world-class visitor attraction offers a distinctive New Zealand Pacific and Southern oceans experience.

There are three main features in the aquarium namely Underwater World, Antarctic Encounter and Animal Adventures. Several education rooms and other exhibits have further been included to enhance the visitors’ excitement.

At the Antarctic Encounter you will see the only sub-Antarctic penguins in New Zealand. You will be able to watch these adorable creatures closely as they carry about their business in their icy domain. A delightful excursion of the snowcat ride will offer an up-close and personal encounter with the colony of penguins and a chance to witness their elegant flight underwater as well as their playful endeavours.

If you dare to delve into the underwater world, you will be gifted with a delightful view of the rich variety of species from the coastal waters of New Zealand. Sharks, giant rays, turtles and other unique deep sea creatures will come face to face with you as you skim though the translucent waters.
