There are many islands that are off the mainland of Thailand and one of the most popular is, Koh Samui. Yearly, thousands of tourists call this their holiday destination for all the touristy activities that the island hosts. A resort in Samui is guaranteed to be packed with holidaymakers at most times. Once a backpacker’s paradise, today the island has become a perfect holiday destination for all types of travellers. The thriving tourism has given the island its own international airport as well.

Apart from the exceptional beaches and the parties to attend, there are also quite a few other places to check out. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the town then head over to Bhoput, a quieter laid back town often known as fisherman’s village. It is a popular spot starting off diving tours. Windsurfing too is a popular activity. One of the hotels that offer the opportunity to windsurf is Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort, who provides this facility along with the guidance of a former Olympian!.

The majority of the population in Koh Samui are Buddhists, hence it is no surprise that there are Buddhist temples on the island. One popular temple here is, Wat Khunaram Ko Samui. It’s mostly famous for its mummified monk on display. However, this is not a traditional temple that you would see every day as the mummified monk appears wearing sunglasses!

Grandmother and grandfather rock are other rocks on the beach of Lamai Beach. They resemble a male and a female and if you are interested in finding out about the story behind the rock then best is to ask a local.

Some of the other attractions worth checking out while here are, Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo Ko Samui, Laem Sor Pagoda Ko Samui, Secret Buddha Garden, Monkey Shows amongst many others.
