 Qingdao, better known to westerners as Tsingtao, is a city located in the Shandong Province of Eastern China. Its name translates to ‘Lush Island’ and refers to the gifts that nature has bestowed unto the modern metropolis. Qingdao owes its popularity as a tourist destination due to its excellent year round weather and seaside location, as well as to the numerous historical and cultural monuments scattered across the city. Once a German colony, the city’s architecture is an interesting and beautiful blend of European and Chinese styles, and certain parts of the city may leave tourists feeling as if they had wandered into some city in Europe.

There are plenty of interesting buildings to visit, including St Michaels Cathedral, the Qingdao Hill Fort Ruins, and the May Fourth Square. To learn more about the local history and culture one can visit the Tian Hou Temple, the Qingdao Folk Museum and the Qingdao Naval Museum. When it comes to dining one has to visit Min Jiang Road. Situated in the northern quadrant, Min Jiang Road contains numerous restaurants selling an amazing variety of food. From local delicacies to more international fare, one is bound to find something to tantalise even the most discerning of palates.
