It is easy to see why the Toe Sae Hill in Phuket Town is also known as Monkey Hill. A little way up the hill, you are sure to spot large groups of monkeys dilly-dallying about the place and digging into fruits brought to them by the visitors. According to some locals, there are more than 400 macaques living in this hill. They are commonly seen sitting in the middle of the road waiting for some Good Samaritan to bring them something edible to munch on. The adults are seen mostly play-fighting amongst each other while one can also see a few babies clinging onto the bellies of their mothers. But once food is sensed, chaos ensues. The monkeys clamber all over each other to get at a bite or another and therefore, it is always wise to give them food separately so as to avoid havoc. However, these monkeys are quite peaceful creatures and do not approach people like certain temple monkeys. As a result, visitors can wander off in the hill taking photos and lounging as much as they wish.

Herds of monkeys being fed by locals is quite a common and an entertaining sight to be witnessed here. There are locals who go up the hill on a regular quest to feed the monkeys. Among them is an old man who goes up the hill in an old pickup truck full of fruits and distribute them among the swarming lot. Meanwhile, he also demonstrates a few tricks that he has taught them over the years. It is evident that he enjoys his fame with the tourists as much as he enjoys feeding his friends on a daily basis.

The hill itself is a popular recreation spot where locals are seen frequently on their daily jog and exercise routines. The hill is hard to miss as this will be the one with quite a few TV masts and aerials on the top. The reason for this is that Monkey Hill is home to a variety of TV and radio stations. The Toe Sae Hill offers several viewpoints to its visitors and is a delightful place to hang out. The surroundings are nice and cool surrounded by the lush verdure sure to shade the visitors from the tropical heat of the day.
