Dubai, the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates, is one of the most popular tourist destinations. Second only to Abu Dhabi in size, Dubai is a global city and serves as a regional hub for business and investment. This large and urban city is home to some of the most dazzling skyscrapers and landmarks, making its skyline a truly iconic one. A hotel conveniently located in close proximity to many Dubai tourist attractions is the Anantara The Palm Dubai Resort.

The Shindagha Historic District, one of Dubai’s oldest regions, is home to many of Dubai’s earliest buildings. Of these buildings, one is considered to be the highlight and main icon; Sheikh Saeed’s House. Sheikh Saeed’s House; formally known as the Sheikh Saeed Al Maktoum House, was the residence of Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum Al Maktoum; the grandfather of the incumbent ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid. With its amazing architectural and historical value, and housing an amazing collection of artifacts from the pre-oil days of Dubai, Sheikh Saeed’s House is a must-visit landmark.

Overlooking the Creek at Shindagha, Sheikh Saeed’s House was built in 1896, and served as Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum Al Maktoum’s residence till his death in 1958. The house boasts traditional Middle Eastern and Islamic architecture, incorporating giant arched doorways, beautiful trellis screens, and intricately sculptured window overhangs. Apart from being a dazzling architectural marvel, Sheikh Saeed’s House also serves as a symbol of the Dubai’s culture before the oil industry changed its face. The house contains an immense collection of rare photographs, documents, coins and currency, and other artifacts from the pre-oil days. Documents and coins dating back to the late 18th Century can also be found here. There is also a rather intriguing exhibition on Dubai’s historic pearl diving industry. With many interesting artifacts, Sheikh Saeed’s House is a great place for anyone who wishes to learn more and understand Dubai’s history and heritage.
