Sydney, Australia, is one of the most infamous cities on the planet. Sydney is the most populous metropolis in all of Oceania and surrounds the world’s largest natural harbour. The city’s penchant for size doesn’t end there since one of her biggest and most popular wonders it the Harbour Bridge, which happens to be the tallest structure of its kind in the world. The Harbour Bridge connects the North Shore, to the central business district, with establishments such as Oaks Hotels and Resorts-Corporate, one of the most iconic Sydney hotels, CBD has to offer.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge was constructed by a British Firm known as Dorman Long and Co Ltd in 1932, based on a design that was influenced by the Hell Gate Bridge at New York City.
Immediately following its opening, the bridge has been a focal point of celebration and national pride. The 50th Anniversary celebration that was conducted in 1982 was one of the biggest that took place on the bridge, with the entire area being closed off for vehicular traffic, granting pedestrians exclusive access to the celebrations. A representative, Edward Judge, of the construction company, Dorman Long, also attended the celebrations.
During the bicentennial Australia-Day celebrations, the Bridge is always the focal point of the celebrations. During the 1988 event, Australia’s largest ever sail-parade, featuring square-riggers from all over the world passed under the bridge, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display with the bridge as the centre-piece.
You too can enjoy the incredible celebrations that take place in and around the bridge since Australia’s New Year’s Eve celebrations always culminate around this iconic location. So if you’d like to end the year in an indisputably unforgettable manner, be sure to visit the fabled city of Sydney, Australia.
