The Tareq Rajab Museum of Islamic Calligraphy is composed of two levels and takes you on a journey where you get to see the evolution of this ornate form of writing. The various scripts have been inscribed on a variety of materials including marble, stone, textiles and wood. As you explore the site you will come across ancient texts of the Quran, quilting and a host of other items that are sure to leave you in awe.

Among the exhibits you can look out for is the hand written Quran from Indonesia which has been inscribed on strips of palm wood as well as Qurans from such countries as Iran and Turkey. Also worth seeing are the Islamic Arabic Chinese calligraphy and the kiswa of the Ka’aba which dates back to the 19th century. There is also a visual presentation of the way in which quills are made as well as the preparation that goes into creating works of calligraphy.

The Tareq Rajab Museum of Islamic Calligraphy has two time slots when it is open to the public; from 9am to 12pm and then again from 4pm to 7pm. Those visiting on Fridays should note that the museum is only open during the morning.
