When you travel to Kandy from Colombo on a train, chances are you’d spot this rail museum on your way, and you’d want to visit.

History
The Kadugannawa Rail Museum opened on the 27th of December in 2014 in the celebrations of the 15oth year of Sri Lanka Railways.

About
Kandy attractions are popular and are located within easy reach from hotels like Mahaweli Reach Hotel, but the Kadugannawa Rail Museum is worth a detour or a stop on your way to Kandy.

Structure
The original station building stands in Peradeniya, and this was built in 1867. The new location was chosen for the museum as this was easier for the travellers on the road to access too. On your way to the hill station, the place is located in an easily accessible point for you to take a pit stop during your journey and add a bit of history to your vacation.

Going in
The museum has several great halls and has everything from old railway equipment to sighs, railway artefacts, and station sundials. The place takes you back in time for sure and is a must visit if you are a lover of history and the Sri Lankan past and life.
