History

The Wat Plai Laem is a relatively new temple which nevertheless attracts droves of devotees from all over, who visit to pay homage to the Goddess and the Buddha. Despite it being built in modern times it steadfastly features art techniques which are centuries old.

Things to See

Upon visiting the temple, one can take in colourful frescos and murals depicting Buddhist mythology. Along with an elaborately decorated ceremonial hall set in the middle of a tranquil lake teeming with fish, as well as a large white laughing Buddha among others.

How to Get There

The temple is located on Koh Samui’s north east coast just a few hundred meters inland from Bang Rack Beach. The temple is open to the public free of charge from 8.00 a.m. to 5 .00 p.m. and can be reached easily from many surrounding Koh Samui hotels including the likes of Anantara Bophut Koh Samui Resort.

Tips to Keep in Mind

Since it’s a place of worship, do dress appropriately covering one’s shoulders and legs. If you are planning on visiting the temple during an afternoon, do remember to carry a canteen of water to stay hydrated.
