The main Merlion statue at the park measures 8.6 metres in height and is in fact the original statue that was previously located at the mouth of the city’s river. Since the view of this structure was blocked after the construction of the Esplanade Bridge, it was moved in 2002 to where it stands today, proudly looking out across the Marina Bay.
Inaugurated in 1964 and opened by former prime minster, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, this scenic park is a great spot to enjoy the view of the surrounding waterfront, be it day or night. Not to be missed is a picture of the Merlion statue which is especially beautiful at night amidst the backdrop of the cityscape.
