Unseen protectors
A set of night watchmen scout the beach from afar at most 5 star hotels in Bentota to spot emerging mother turtles, on their way to lay eggs, diligently ensuring they come to no harm during the nesting period.
Protected Hatchery
Located, close to Cinnamon Bentota Beach hotel, Kosgoda Turtle Hatchery is a haven with no undesired human action or predators roaming, providing the environment for the eggs to develop and hatch. This period may range from about one and a half months to two months.
Benevolent helpers
Fishermen on their routine activities are engaged to be active players in this worthy cause by empowering them to spot and retrieve eggs to be safely transferred to the hatchery
Be awed by the emergence of hatchlings
Once the egg is fully developed, the baby turtle or ‘hatchling’ breaks free from the shell stimulating other hatchlings to emerge too. See the wonder of these hatchlings conquering many obstacles like a bit of seaweed, a mere footprint on their way to the sea. Challenges teach them endurance and survival.
