The Hubei Provincial Museum was founded in 1953 and then moved to the present location, not far from the west shore of Wuhan’s east lake in 1960. It was renamed in 1963 as Hubei Provincial Museum. Being such a large museum it is separated into three areas namely Chime Bells Exhibition Hall, the Comprehensive Exhibition Building, and the Chu Culture Exhibition Hall. In the Chime Bells Exhibition Hall you would be able to see relics like the ornate bronze vessel referred to as ‘Crane Standing o¬n the Antler’, triangle-shaped swords, ancient halberds, and the bamboo slips which were utilised for writing o¬n in ancient times which were found in the tomb of Yi, the king of Zeng state. The most spectacular treasure in the Chime Bell Hall is a bronze musical instrument which is known as the largest instrument ever to be discovered. The music that comes out of these ancient instruments brought to life by the musicians will surely enthral you.
The cultural relics featured in the Chu Cultural Exhibition Hall ranges from lacquer works, bronze vessels, ancient weapons and silk products to wooden artefacts. They have also built replicas of houses in which the Chu people lived making the whole experience more interesting.
