Wadduwa is a quiet little beach town on the south of Sri Lanka. Bordered by pristine beaches, lush coconut trees and luxury hotels like The Blue Water Wadduwa, which offers a complete different hotel experience; this town has a lot to offer.

There are many attractions in Wadduwa for tourists and locals looking for the ideal getaway from the busy city life. Wadduwa is also known as a fishing village and travellers are treated to the sights of the local fishermen gathering to sell their catch of the day at the local market. Early birds will also get the chance to experience these fishermen getting back from their trip to the sea as they pull out their net with the fish. Located in the neighbouring town of Kalutara, and popular amongst the locals, the Temple of Kalutara with its immaculate structure is known to bring good luck to travellers on their journey. There are smaller temples in the town, like Rankoth Viharaya which is built on a rock; for those that prefer to walk around the town during the day. Due to the vast number of coconut trees in the Island, it’s no surprise that the locals use this raw material to create products that are unique and useful. From spoons to coconut wire carpets, the coconut based products are the most exclusive type of souvenirs that travellers would love to take home. Another way that locals make use of their abundance of coconut trees is to produce a certain kind of local alcohol called Toddy. ‘Toddy tappers’ scale these towering trees, which are usually connected by rope to collect white sap which is later harvested and fermented to create the locals’ favourite drink! Witness as these daredevils walk along the ropes in search for the white sap, and later enjoy some toddy by the shores of the Indian Ocean.
