Situated an expedient 25 kilometres north of the central business city, Austinmer beach is one of the most famous beaches in the Thirroul region. With patrols positioned adequately from September to April, the beach is well organized and can accommodate even large summer crowds that flock to the beautiful sands each sunny season. Many shops border the western side of the beach off the Lawrence Hargrave Drive, and you can find a place to park your vehicle at a park located between the drive and the beach, which makes it a hassle-free process for you to park your vehicle safely and even treat yourself and your family to a spot of shopping while enjoying the lovely sea breeze and stunning vista all around.

A surf club and many other facilities can be found on the southern end of this beach which is estimated to be about 250 metres long. With waves which are on average, about 1.4 metres, the beach is faced with a permanent and quite a strong rip current that hits against the rocks at each end of the shore. Austinmer beach is not classified as dog-friendly but if you do want to give your canine friend a bit of seaside adventure, the little Austinmer beach which is positioned straight off to the north is a wonderful place.
