Held in July in Padang, the annual Bali Kite Festival is held with the intention of sending a message to Hindu gods to create many crops and harvests. Large traditional kites can be seen flown competitively during this international event. These traditional kites include Bebean, Pecukan and Janggan. Each group participating in this competition consists of 10 or more members. The largest type of kites at this festival is Bebean which resembles a split-tailed and broad-mouthed fish. Attracting kitefliers from around the world, the festival includes live music provided by a gamelan orchestra.
