Happen to be on holiday with the family in Galle? Then have a look at allocating time for these excursions and experiences that will surely have the kids completely taken in.

Walk through Galle

A walking tour of the city is recommended but be sure to head out either during the morning or late afternoon as the heat can get to you and your kids. Kick things off at Fort New Entrance and wind your way through Flag Rock Bastion and the National Museum. Next up, let yourself go within the quaint streets and if you still have energy left, do make for the ramparts for sweeping views of the Indian Ocean.

Call by Sri Lanka’s oldest lighthouse

Rising from the ramparts of Point Utrecht Bastion which is nestled at the southernmost section of the Galle Fort, the Galle Lighthouse is one of those unmistakable sights in all of Galle. Having seen the light of day in 1848, visitors can inspect its white exterior before striking that perfect pose that would make for quite a fond memory. In fact, if you have chosen a unique villa like Kahanda Kanda which is a boutique hotel Sri Lanka offers, then commuting to this landmark will be a popular pastime.

Unwind along Dalawella Beach

Though you will have to make the journey for around 7km south of Galle, the perks of being on Dalawella Beach would be hard to ignore. For starters, the shallow lagoon is perfect for smaller kids to frolic (under adult supervision of course!) while the area is also where you can witness turtles.

Eat at Coconut Sambal

Cap off your time in Galle by tucking into household names in Sri Lankan cuisine at Coconut Sambal which is found at No. 68, Church Street. This eatery presents buffet-style meals that go extremely well with a selection of fresh juices.
