Located in southern Sri Lanka the Bundala National Park portrays the vivid and abundant wildlife of the country. The park is spread across 6000 hectares of brackish lagoons, thorny scrub jungle, inter-tidal mudflats, and salt pans. It is mostly popular for its wealth of aquatic bird life, which includes some of the rare migratory birds. The setting of the nature reserve is such that there are numerous lagoons throughout the park making it an interesting habitat for birdlife that feed on the various smaller animals that take shelter in the water as well as in the areas surrounding the lagoon.

Being located in a coastal area, the Bundala National Park also attracts four of the five types of sea turtles in Sri Lanka. The coastal area of the nature reserve is a popular nesting area for these turtles. There is also a small population of elephant and other mammals to be seen here. Leopards, jackals, Sloth Bears, Spotted deer, Barking deer, Sambar, Civet cats, giant squirrels and the Indian pangolin can be seen here. The marshy land also attracts numerous reptiles including crocodiles.
