If you want to relax and enjoy some green space while in Brisbane, look no further than the City Botanic Gardens in Brisbane which were formerly known as the Brisbane Botanic Gardens. The gardens are located in Brisbane’s Central Business District and one end of the garden is bordered by the Brisbane river.
The garden includes some of the rarest and unusual species and is regarded as Brisbane’s mature garden. There is a dedicated area for cycads, palms, figs and bamboo. According to the Queensland Heritage Register, the garden is described as “the most significant, non-Aboriginal cultural landscape in Queensland.”
The site was initially chosen as a public garden site in the year 1828, by Botanist Charles Fraser. The garden initially had food crops to feed the prison inmates. However over the years, this space evolved into public gardens that feature various types of plants. The gardens also serve as a great place for people to come together and relax. They are usually crowded with people during summer and spring. There are also cafés and restaurants in the vicinity to grab a bite while around here.
