One of the world’s most popular coastal destinations, the Seychelles offers an idyllic holiday getaway amidst soft sandy beaches, turquoise waters and magical sunsets. The country also boasts a rich history and is home to multicultural communities, each with their own traditions and religious beliefs.

A celebration of this rich heritage, the Creole Festival highlights such elements as cuisine, music, dance, customs and arts. Taking place for around six days every October, this colourful festival is the most anticipated cultural event of the year and visitors can experience all the vibrancy and energy of the festivities, at the islands of Praslin, La Digue and Mahe.

There are many events and festivities held during this period that offer countless hours of fun and entertainment for the entire family. “Dimans Kreol bor Lanmer” is an event held at the beach and which lets you enjoy thrilling water sports, local cuisine and fascinating games. Highlighting the distinctive Creole language is the “Lenstiti Kreol” which sees a wide range of linguists and writers meeting and discussing elements of this language, which is used in other parts of the world as well.

Offering a unique insight into traditional and modern local music, “Lakadans” is an event that brings together some of the country’s best musicians as they take audiences on a musical odyssey like never before. Other events that have been held which have showcased the local musical heritage include the “Kreolisimo”; in the past this event has been graced by artistes from the School of Music and National College of the Arts who performed traditional songs of the Seychelles.

Another important aspect of the Creole Festival is the live entertainment on offer with street performances and shows taking place at a variety of locations.  Giving you a more contemporary taste of Creole culture is the “Fon Lanmal”, a fashion show that lets audiences witness the latest creations of up and coming young local designers.
