If you want to experience everything that Sri Lanka has to offer it wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the hill country in the center of the island. Fondly known as “Little England” due to its colonial style buildings and milder weather, Nuwara Eliya is regarded one of the important towns of the highlands and many tourist as well as locals make their way up here as it is cooler in comparison to the rest of the island. Hotels in Nuwara Eliya are popular among both locals and tourist alike.

One of the most popular hotels among the visitors to town is the Heritance Tea Factory Hotel. Tea cultivation was introduced to the island by the British who once ruled the country. Today tea remains as one of the major cash crops of the island. The hotel is a former tea factory converted into a hotel, the hotel offers luxury rooms over looking green carpets of tea plantations where guests are given the chance to get into a tea pluckers outfit and pluck their own tea.

The town is a great place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city life, and offers great views with the famous Gregory’s lake in the center. One of the other attractions in the city include the Galway’s Land National Park. A small national park located within the city limits of Nuwara Eliya. The area was declared a wild life sanctuary in 1938 and then elevated to a national park in 2006. The park mainly aims to conserve the montane ecosystem and is considered a key birding site along with Victoria Park in Nuwara Eliya. There are around 20 migrant species and 30 native species within the Galway park. There is also a wide variety of local flora and those of foreign origin.
