Would you like to see the world’s largest crocodile? You don’t have to go trekking through dense jungles or swim through swamps, just pay a visit to the Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo. The world’s largest crocodile in captivity measures a good 6 metres that is 19 feet and 8 inches for those of you who don’t like the metres measuring system. Weighing a solid 111.47kgs or 2645 pounds, this mammoth reptile is named Yai and is an Estuarine, Siamese hybrid. Apart from Yai, the farm has over 100,000 crocodiles making it the largest crocodile farm in the world.

Founded in the 1950s by Mr.Utai fondly known as ‘The crocodile king’, it is approximately 10kms away from the bustling town of Bangkok. The crocodile wrestling show at the farm is the most popular event here. Watching men wrestle with jaw snapping crocodiles, using just their bare hands is a feat that not many can accomplish or claim to have witnessed. There are 7 daily shows, the first at 9.00am and the last at 4.00pm. Holidays have 2 additional shows with the last one being at 6.00pm.

Apart from the crocodiles, there is also a superb elephant acrobatic show. Obviously different from the adrenaline rushing croc vs. man wrestling matches, this one is all about fun and laughter. With over 300 acres of land, the area also includes a zoo. With a variety of animals and a mini train for you those who don’t want to tire the feet, it’s a wonderful day out experience for both adult and kids. The dinosaur museum is another interesting place at the Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm and Zoo.

Since the distance from the zoo to Bangkok is small, staying at one of the luxury hotel in Bangkok might be a good decision. Staying at a Bangkok luxury hotel also means that you can be pampered while finding convenient transport to all the sites you want to visit. Metropolitan Bangkok located in the Thai capital is one of the country’s best hotels. The restaurants here are legendary with Nahm being named the 3rd best restaurant in Asia and also making the list of the World’s 50 best restaurants.
