The Sri Mahamariamman Temple is situated at edge of Chinatown in Jalan Bandar. The temple provided an important place of worship for early Indian immigrants and is now, one of the most important cultural and national heritage place of worship in Malaysia. The Sri Mahamariamman Temple is the oldest functioning Hindu temple in Malaysia. It is also known to be the richest temple in Kuala Lupar. The location of three shrines in the main temple is marked by an ornately embellished onion dome which can be seen from outside. There is also four smaller shrines located that is located around the main temple building. The high pyramid-shaped gate tower of the Sri Mahamariamman Temple is decorated with depictions of Hindu gods that are sculpted by artisans from southern India. This temple is one of the most historical Hindu worship sites that guests can visit if you are a tourist in Kuala Lumpur.
