The cavernous Majilis Al Jin is a splendid feature etched into (or rather, out of) the Omani landscape, and it must feature on your travel itinerary in the region. Your Oman hotel will be only too happy to arrange transport, and consider the Al Wadi Hotel Sohar as a possible accommodation option of all the Oman hotels in the region. The Majilis Al Jin translates to “meeting place of the jinns”, and it truly is a locality straight out of Arabian Nights. This spectacular underground cave is only accessible via a small hold that serves as a point of access up on its roof, through which explorers have to rappel down a distance of around 120 metres. The size of this subterranean wonderland enables it to hold around thirty commercial jets, and it is located about 100 km outside of Muscat, the capital of Oman. Its dimensions are 310 metres by 225 metres, and the ceiling, which is around 120 metres high, is only about 40 metres thick. Visitors who brave this massive cave will have a choice of three access points, and one is sure to leave here with a matchless sense of wonder over nature’s most awe-inspiring architectural finesse.
