Australia’s northeastern state of Queensland is all about the sun, sea and sand. The capital city, Brisbane is tourist haven that is known for its friendly, welcoming locals and fabulous weather. Visitors can have their pick of hotels, Brisbane CBD has a large selection and getting about is as easy as strapping on a pair of walking shoes. Flowing right through its center is the Brisbane River that empties out into Moreton Bay. Enjoy views of the water, with the cityscape beyond, when you stay at lodging near the river such as iStay River City and a number of others.

Located on the southern banks of the river is South Bank, stretching from the Queensland Art Gallery and Australia’s Gallery of Modern Art to the Queensland Maritime Museum. The Parklands of the South Bank became a landmark when it played host to the world expo in 1988. Thereafter, they were opened to the public for daily use.

The area encompasses some forested sections, large lawns and colourful gardens. There are intertwined trails that take you through the parks, where you will find yourself surrounded by lush native vegetation. You can select the path that takes you by the Nepalese Pagoda or down to the herb garden. You can even head through the parklands to Streets Beach for a swim or make a stop at one of the many children’s play areas.

There are plenty of restaurants and small eateries scattered throughout the area if you want to grab a bite to eat. For those working on the go, free Wi-Fi is also available throughout. You will also encounter The Wheel of Brisbane that will treat you to aerial views of the parks below, should you choose to ride. Little Stanley Street and River Quay boast great dining venues and are located nearby.
