Part of the fascinating culture of the Maldives is its folk music, epitomised by the traditional performance known as Bodu Beru. A great way to view such a performance is by staying at resorts in Maldives which provide its guests a thrilling opportunity to witness Bodu Beru. Maafushivaru Maldives is one such option and as one of the leading Maldives island resorts it offers a truly unforgettable holiday in paradise.

Drawing similarities with east and south west African music, Bodu Beru is believed to have been introduced to the country by travelling sailors. This popular form of folk dance and music features the use of three to four drums that have been made by utilising coconut wood. You normally get one main singer accompanied by a ten to fifteen strong chorus. The beat of Bodu Beru starts of slow, but picks up as the performance goes on and the dance movements become more animated, while spectators can join in the clapping and dancing too!
