Located about 37km to the North of Colombo, the commercial heart of Sri Lanka, Negombo is popular among the visitors due to its close proximity to the Airport. It is best that you talk with your hotel before striking up a deal with a local boatman you met on your morning walk, though, as some hotels like Amagi Lagoon Resort & Spa Negombo arrange specialized tours for their visitors along the Dutch canal and into the lagoon. It is best to opt for such a deal as opposed to sailing into the sea with a stranger you met only a few hours back. While Sri Lanka is a safe and hospitable country, one can never be too safe when in a foreign land.
