About Martin Wickramasinghe

Martin Wickramasinghe was a renowned and celebrated Sri Lankan author and poet, who had his acclaimed work translated into several languages. Having passed away in 1976, he is widely considered to be the father of modern Sinhala literature.

The museum

The house in which Martin Wickramasinghe was born and spent much of his adult life has been established as a folk museum complex, and surrounding grounds give Victor a glimpse into the idyllic life the author lived.

Things to see

The house and its contents, have been carefully preserved and can be observed by visitors. The little house’s lush and carefully tended grounds are rife with birdlife and indigenous trees. The museum can be reached easily from Galle beach resorts in Sri Lanka including the likes of The Fortress Resort and Spa with ease.

After taking in the house, be sure to make your way to the adjoining museum complex, where visitors can take in artefacts from Sri Lanka’s yesteryear to get insight into Sri Lanka’s rich folk culture.
