The MINT Museum of Toys is probably one of the most interesting museums in Singapore. Opened in 2007, it is the first museum in the world to be specially built to showcase vintage toys and includes unique and rare pieces in its vast collection. The name MINT actually stands for ‘Moment of Imagination and Nostalgia with Toys’, although the word can also be used to describe its collection of toys, a majority which are in perfect condition despite their age. The collection includes well over fifty thousand pieces sourced from over forty countries throughout the world. Some of the older toys in the collection date back to the nineteenth century.

While the museum’s appeal to children is fairly obvious, it is not limited to children alone. In fact, one of the museum’s missions is to bring out the inner child in everyone and help people regain their lost childhoods. So visitors are bound to enjoy visiting this place regardless of their age. The museum puts on exhibits that change from time to time. Some of the more interesting ones include Outerspace, a collection of Dan Dare toys; Characters, which contains the largest collection of Batman and Popeye toys outside of Japan; and Childhood Favourites, a collection of vintage toys beloved by many.

A trip here is ideal for families with children, although that should not stop tourists without children from dropping by. The toy museum is located along Seah Street, a short walk from both, the Bugis and the City Hall MRT Stations. One has to pay a fee to get in and there are special concessionary rates for children and for families. The museum is open daily from 9.30 am to 6.30 pm.

One of the true delights of visiting Singapore is enjoying the island’s excellent infrastructure, which makes sightseeing easy and hassle free. Since the local public transport system is very efficient one should stay at Singapore hotels that are situated close to an MRT station. Millennium & Copthorne Hotels Singapore offers a chain of hotels in Singapore that enjoy central locations and come with a range of facilities. They are the ideal accommodation choice whether one is visiting on business or pleasure.
