The enchanting Kingdom of Aladdin (Entertainment City)
Known as entertainment city, The Kingdom of Aladdin is the only amusement park in Qatar. In fact it is the only one of its kind in the whole of the Persian Gulf. Located in the west Bay of Doha the theme park has 18 rides including a gigantic Ferris wheel. Roller coasters, bumper cars, ice rink and roller skating area are among the other more popular rides.
Opening in 1994, the park was created with the aim of having a place of fun and fellowship for the entire family while also maintaining a sense of heritage. This is the main reason for the park being named after the famous character the Arabian Nights. The park also has an amphitheater, daily costume parade, fireworks display as well as a cafeteria.
However the park is opened exclusively for women and children below the age of 12 years on Mondays and Wednesdays. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays are ‘family days’ and entrance is open to everyone. On Saturdays it is rented out for private parties, while on Sundays men and boys above the age of allowed in to the park. The admission is 25 Qatar riyals and charges for rides vary in between 2 to 5 Qatar riyals.
Apart from the entertainment city, the National Museum and Al Bida Park are also interesting places to visit. A beautiful example of the architectural and design style of Arab, the National Museum consists of an old palace. Displaying the rich cultural heritage of Qatar, the Bedouin tribesmen as well as the life before oil section are extremely popular among tourists.
The Al Bida Park is ideal to take a relaxing walk as you admire Doha’s magnificent buildings. With a lake at its center and lush green laws, many locals and visitors choose to relax here. You can also do some famous Doha shopping at the Village Mall and many other modern shopping arcades or visit the traditional souk markets.
