Location

The Peggy Guggenheim collection is displayed in the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, a grand 18th-century palace designed by Venetian architect, Lorenzo Boschetti, which is situated along the Grand Canal between Gallerie dell ‘Accademia and Santa Maria Della Salute.

History

Marguerite Guggenheim known as Peggy was a famous art collector and socialite. She created a notable art collection in Europe and America between 1938 and 1946 consisting of masterpieces from a variety of styles such as abstract expressionism, cubism, and surrealism. She settled down in Paris after purchasing the palace in 1949 and exhibited the collection for the rest of her life.

The Collection

The palazzo houses an impressive collection of modern pieces, and its picturesque setting attracts almost 400,000 visitors every year and is featured extensively in holiday packages by popular tour and Airline ticket booking sites including the likes of macktrip.com. Among the notable masters represented in the collection are Giorgio de Chirico and Gino Severini.

General Information

The museum opens from 10.a.m. to 6 p.m. daily except on Tuesdays and can be accessed by everyone including people with limited mobility.
