The Puffing Billy is considered to be one of the best-preserved steam railways in the world! The steam train that you’ll hop on board is a century old; the railway has a history that spans as back as the 1900’s when it was declared open to serve the local timber and farming community. The railway is located by the Dandenong Ranges near Melbourne City. It’s quite a bit far away from most of the accommodation near MCG the likes of the Oaks On Collins; but it’s well worth the effort.

With such beautiful surrounding, it’s no wonder that the corner seat would be the best seat to choose. You can also opt for the open sided carriages that provide the ultimate views. If you wish, you can also travel first class and avail yourself of the luxury, fully enclosed dining carriages.

Did you grow up watching Thomas and Friends and dream of working in a railway? Then this is your chance! The Puffing Billy railway admits volunteers to take on roles such as the conductor and even work with their engine team! In addition, the railway presents many other fun activities such as visiting Emerald Lake Park and embarking on a walking trail along the Nobelius Heritage Park and in Wright Forest.
