The Rotorua Aquatic Centre Appeal Committee, formed in the 1960’s remained true to their vision of building an Olympic standard pool and saw the 8 lane, outdoor pool of 50 meters of their dreams gleaming in the sun in the year 1975. Rotorua Aquatic Centre has, since then been serving thousands of people in their initial efforts of swimming in the waters and also providing entertainment galore in the clear blue masses, sharing the passion they always had with the public while a great success story was being written in their credit.
The project saw completion in three steps over a span of close to 40 years. The first step of the project was for the said Olympic standard pool to be established, while the second step saw another general pool 32m x 20m x1.9 -2m deep which included a bulk-head which once moved, could establish a 25m pool, being formed to facilitate a range of activities as well as the formation of a recreation pool that included a learners area, general area that incorporated a beach area as well as a toddlers area.
As the popularity started being centered on the Aquatic Centre, investments started looking more appropriate and profitable; hence the year 2003 saw a million dollar upgrade bringing entertainment and recreation to the Rotorua Aquatic Centre in the form of a Lazy River, A Splash Pad with a Water Rainbow, Fumbling Five, Donut Fountain, Ground Geyser x 3, Magic Touch Bollard, Water Cannon x2 and Directional Water Jet x 6. Pink and White Terrace style Outdoor Spa Pool as well as an Indoor Spa Pool also were added, heightening the appeal that the place possessed over the modern day enthusiasts.
The Rotorua Aquatic Centre also provides lessons on swimming through Swimsation, conducting classes for people aged 6 months to adults as the dutiful centre continues in their journey to equip many with a life skill that is rarely disdained.
