Muscat is the capital of Oman and dates back to the 1st Century as an important trading port between the east and west. The Sultan’s Armed Forces Museum is housed in the 150 year old original Garrison Headquarters of Sultan Said Bin Sultan’s militia. This structure is of grand stature and symbolizes the might of the ancient armies of Oman. The history of the Oman Armed Forces is amply displays the rise and development of Oman during the pre-Islamic times, due to the exploits of its military. One can witness a plethora of ancient weaponry used by the militia, including guns ranging from antique commons to early machine guns and melee weaponry. The displays of this museum also contain uniforms, medals and other artefacts of the Sultan’s armed forces. A highlight of this museum is the exhibition of captured weapons of the Rebels of Dhafar. Several modern instruments of war such as armed vehicles, aircraft and modern firearms, along with other implements used in the battlefront can also been seen at this museum. Any history- buff would be enthralled by the rich military history preserved in this iconic museum.
