Beautiful beach resort retreats, outstanding museums, fine restaurants, modern shopping centers and marinas, are just a few pleasures found in Kuwait city. Furthermore, its unique heritage will not cease to fascinate you as they take pride in treasuring valued customs and also preserving historical artifacts and antiques as well as modern culture. Among the religious festivals celebrated in Kuwait, Eid- al- Fitr is one of the most significant celebrations among Muslims to mark the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting.
This occasion is celebrated very festively for three days and during this time kids receive “Eidiah” money given by older relatives as gifts. It is a custom to slaughter a lamb and hold a grand feast in which family and friends join in the joy. Furthermore, the men perform a traditional sword dance called “ardha”. There is also an Islamic prayer consisting of two ‘rak’ahs’ or units performed in congregation during the first morning of Eid. This occasion is also sometimes referred to as the ‘smaller Eid’ compared to the ‘Eid-al-Adha’ which lasts for four days followed by the Hajj, which is casually named as the ‘greater Eid’. However in some countries it is the other way around, where Eid- al- Fitr is considered greater and is the most significant feast for Muslims. During this feast and in the many parties that are thrown, a traditional sweet dish named ‘Sewain’ is served. Some go out to celebrate, and dine in restaurants and participate in the games that are held.
Eid is also considered a national holiday and is a joyful occasion where the message of peace and love is spread to the world. Furthermore, it is a tradition to wear new clothes on this day, visit friends and relatives and bestow gifts. In addition, houses are decorated richly and there are a lot of fireworks during Eid nights.
