Townsville General Hospital is the main tertiary care hospital in the city of Townsville serving the entire Northern Queensland region. Many patients from far away regions are usually airlifted or transported to the hospital for care on a daily basis. Being established only in the year 2001 the hospital is fairly new. The Townsville region is also close to some of the world heritage listed attractions such as the Great Barrier Reef.
