The heritage of a college town is one which is deeply enshrined in the culture of the United States. Many towns and cites have a rivalry with one another not based on basketball or baseball teams but on the academic rankings of their universities. Among the notable college towns in the United States is Boston and Chicago. Not to be out done is Boulder, Colorado which boasts of its own learning centre- the University of Colorado.

The University of Colorado has a history that precedes the admission of the state into the Union, having been established in the year 1876 as public university. It has since been at the forefront of academic research and the education of students. Among its notable alumni the University of Colorado can count six Nobel laureates and seven MacArthur Fellows which goes to underline its reputation as a centre of excellence in research. It is also a source of sporting pride to the city as Colorado Buffaloes have consistently fared well in inter-collegiate tournaments.

Following its establishment in the late 19th century, the university maintained a relatively low-key existence until its expansion in 1917. During this period a number of new buildings were constructed and the university gained its signature architectural style courtesy of Charles Klauder, the designer behind the project. Buildings were erected in Italian Rural Style, which gave it a rustic, rugged feel and also blended in well with the surrounding pinewood forest. The architectural style of this university exhibits a refreshing difference from the pretentious ornate buildings of other Ivy League Universities.

In addition to its objective of being a research centre and educating undergraduates, the University of Colorado also boasts a number of centers that are dedicated to the arts such as the Mary Rippon Theatre which hosts the regional Shakespeare Drama Festival. Other attractions on campus include the art galleries at Norlin Library, the University Of Colorado Museum Of Natural History and the performance arts theatre which has over 400 different shows an year.

Located close to this seat of learning is Millennium Harvest House Boulder which offers excellent Boulder lodging. Among the plethora of Boulder hotels, this premier hotel offers great access to regional attractions and comfortable accommodation.
