Tianjin has many cultural and historical attractions within its city limits, and one such attraction is the Ancient Culture Street. The Ancient Culture Street of Tianjin, also known as Guwenhua Jie, is a recreation of a typical Chinese street as it existed in the 18th and 19th centuries. It is a great place to get in touch with Chinese culture and history and is also an ideal place to gather intriguing insights about the traditional Chinese lifestyle and day-to-day affairs.

Located in the Nankai District of Tianjin, the Ancient Culture Street was established in 1986 and is currently a popular tourist attraction. The Street’s main focus is depicting the lifestyle as it existed during the Qing Dynasty and, thus, showcases entire buildings, houses, shops and enterprises as they existed in the 18th and 19th centuries. One can witness a range of traditionally built houses and shops constructed with blue bricks with colourful windows and doors. These houses and shops have many beautiful paintings and graffiti upon them, which depict Chinese folk legends and tales. At the centre of the Street one can find the Tianhou Palace; a marvelous 14th Century Mazu Temple in all its ancient glory. Ancient Culture Street is also a great place to shop for traditional Chinese handicrafts such as Niren Zhang Sculptures and New Year’s Paintings.

If you wish to get in touch with Chinese culture and take a stroll back in time to a traditional Chinese street, then be sure to visit Tianjin’s Ancient Culture Street.
