Visitors to the vast nation of Indonesia will find many intriguing attractions to draw their attention. Nature lovers will be delighted by the Baluran National Park, a vast natural sanctuary that is fascinating to explore. The park may be conveniently accessed from a convenient Surabaya hotel such as the Somerset Surabaya Hotel and Serviced Residence. This attractive accommodation offers well-appointed rooms and attentive hospitality.

Baluran National Park is a vast expanse which spans an area of no less than 25,000 hectares. Located on the northern coast of the area known as East Java, this splendid sanctuary offers breathtaking scenery and well organized safari excursions. In fact many have remarked that on the whole the savannah landscapes of these plains are reminiscent of African game parks. Although there are three sizable national wildlife parks in East Java, Baluran is the most conveniently reached and without doubt the easiest to explore. Today many tourists frequent this alluring wildlife sanctuary.

The most conspicuous feature of the park is the lofty Mount Baluran, which is in fact a dormant volcanic mountain. The park includes stretches of attractive sandy beach, featuring mangroves bordering coastal waters that contain luxuriant coral reefs.

As you might expect many interesting kinds of fauna and flora may be seen at this alluring natural sanctuary. Mammalian denizens here include the wild pig, leopard cat, Java deer, buffalo and three varieties of monkeys. Other local highlights include monitor lizards, fruit bats, squirrels, and palm civets. Visitors will also come across numerous kinds of birds in the environs of the park, with common sightings including the Javanese peacock and jungle fowls. At one time even Javan tigers were found here, although they are no longer to be seen today.

Probably the best way to view animals is from a safari vehicle, particularly during the evening and night hours. With so much to see and experience a visit to Baluran National Park will undoubtedly be a memorable experience.
