Glenelg is a charming little seaside suburb twenty five minutes from Adelaide on board the vintage tram that has been carrying passengers to and fro since the 1920’s. The South Australian suburb is dotted with little boutiques, sidewalk eateries, an old fashioned amusement park and a number of hotels. At Glenelg, tourist attractions centre very much around the beach and the many activities it offers. A leisurely stroll along the beach will give you sweeping views of Holdfast Bay. Adjacent to Holdfast Marina you will encounter Oaks Plaza Pier, which offers accommodation from spacious studios to three bedroom apartments.

Several cruise companies offer ‘Dolphin swim cruises’, boasting opportunities that promise guests a once in a lifetime experience. Dolphins are thought to be some of the earth’s most fascinating and curious marine mammals and a chance to interact with them is bound to be truly memorable. They are also known to share a special bond with humans. The coastal waters near Adelaide are home to over one thousand common and bottlenose dolphins. They often appear out of nowhere, to the surprise and delight of watchers on board, to play and frolic around the boats. They are known to whistle and ‘dance’, creating entertaining displays for onlookers. Guests are encouraged to record these unforgettable moments on film. A swim with these delightful creatures can last for over an hour with the activity sometimes being spread over three or four swims, with different pods of dolphins.

Most cruise companies are respectful of these animals and their natural environment. They will not actively search for the dolphins but rather allow them to approach the boat at will. They also assure participants that the creatures are not coaxed or fed and ensure the wild creatures face no threat from the vessel or its occupants.
