Governed by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department at present, the Park was not always a National Park. In fact, the area was a game reserve as well as a residence for a former Governor by the name of William Langhorne. As a result, over three hundred and fifty types of plant life can be found within its boundaries as well as an abundance of tree species as well.
The plush undergrowth also allows for fauna to thrive and animals such as the well known jackal, hedgehog, mongoose and spotted deer as well the more uncommon bonnet macaque, hyena, small Indian civet and three striped palm squirrel. However, the premises is mostly known for the Near Threatened Blackbuck.
