“There aren’t three days without rain, three miles without a mountain, or three coins in anyone’s pocket” is a famous saying in Guizhou, the mountainous porivnice in South West China. As if bearing testimony to this fact, the capital city of Guizhou, Guiyang, is a place where wilderness is at home.

Once upon a time Guiyang played an important role in dynastic history.Although the hotels in Guiyang were few and scarce, the locals used the city mainly as a place to catch a train or a bus to a different locality, thus it did not make much of a difference. However, with the establishment of Anantara Guiyang Resort, the first international resort in the area, the many alluring sites here have attracted the tourist. Built during the Ming dynasty, the Jiaxiu pavilion is the symbol of the city and has a history of 400 years. Close to this is the ancient town of Qinyang, which is a must visit if you are interested in architecture. For those seeking remnants of the destructive powers of war, Xifeng concentration camp in Guiyang is a must visit. The hollowness of the landscape adds a sense of eerie beauty to the whole city. This was the largest prison during the anti-Japanese war, and the highest level of prisoners were held here. However, nothing speaks the beauty of Guiyang like the hot springs of Xifeng. Nestled among the mountains, each decorated by a lush canopy of pines, bamboos, and firs, the hot springs bubble forth. Not only have they been a key attraction in the area, but they have also aided hospitals and villas in the area.

In addition to the unheard of beauty, Guiyang is also rich in ethnic diversity. There are twenty three groups of ethnic minorities living in the area, the most popular being Miao people and the Han. Each bring their own culture and cuisine to the mix, making Guiyang a beautiful melting pot of all forms of diversity.
