Sri Lanka is a tropical paradise located in the Indian Ocean, famous for its natural beauty and diverse wildlife. Towards the Eastern coast of the country, in the small city of Pottuvil, there is an unspoilt stretch of land and beach inviting eco-tourists and nature lovers for an ideal holiday in Sri Lanka. What is special about this area is that it is still undiscovered by many tourists and the natural environment is well preserved, hence the earlier you visit you have more chance to get a taste of everything in their original surrounding. If you are on the look for a Pottuvil hotel, there are several options such as Kottukal Beach House by Jetwing which will guarantee to make your stay much comfortable.

In spite of being an undeveloped area, there is much activity around Pottuvil, a few of the main being a boat tour in the Pottuvil Lagoon, sea surfing, visiting Lahugala National Park and Kumana National Park, and sightseeing including the famous Whiskey Point and Muhudu Maha Viharaya. Paying a visit to the Pottuvil Lagoon is the best way to experience undisturbed wildlife while leisurely floating on serene waters. The lagoon is surrounded by a thick Mangrove forest and is rich in its wildlife collection including many species of birds, water monitor lizards, crocodiles, Sri Lankan monkeys and even occasional elephant herds. A boat tour guided by local fishermen is maintained by Hidiyapuram Fisheries Cooperative Society. Rather than a boat, you get to ride on a hand-canoed wooden platform adding a touch of local culture to the expedition. The rides take off either early in the morning or in the evening around 3.00 p.m. every day and are usually 2-3 hours long. The early morning ride is perfect for bird watching. While you trail down the water path you will notice that all forms of life in the lagoon including humans have blended perfectly with the nature, creating a very calm and relaxing environment.
