It all began with the great great grandson of Jassim, who defeated the Ottomans in battle and is regarded by some as the founder of Qatar; Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Bin Faisal Al-Thani growing up hearing the tales of his great ancestors and wanting to preserve this rich history and prestige of the Arabian Gulf. Thus, after years of traveling, exploring and collecting, in 1998 Sheikh Faisal-one of the Middle East’s most influential business leaders, declared open his beloved museum that also features cherished artifacts from around the world which he had gathered from his many international travels.

Located just half an hour from central Doha, the museum is itself a collector’s piece as it is built in the form of an ancient stone fortress with traditional turrets. Within the five halls of the building you will find magnificent relics from exquisite jewelry and dangerous weapons at the ‘Qatar Heritage’ section which also contains dinosaur eggs and rare strange minerals. At the ‘Vehicles’ section you will see a historic steam car an old model of an aero plane, while at the ‘Islamic Art’ section you can fest your eyes on intricate precious pieces of art.
