The Royal Thai Air Force Museum of Thailand is based in the Don Mueang Districts in Bangkok. It is in proximity to the domestic terminal of the district and is open to the public daily from 9am to 4pm. Establish in 1952, the museum has a number of airplanes and different aviation equipment used by the Royal Thai Air Force. The most fascinating exhibits in the museum are the F11 C aircraft and the only surviving Tachikawa Ki-36 Japanese trainers. The trainers were used during WWII when Thailand backed the Japanese and remained a close ally fighting against the UK and the USA. Along with the trainers there are 4 other types of aircrafts that were used by the Air Force during the war; they are the Curtiss BF2C Goshawks, Breguets, Nieuports and the last of the Vought O2Y Corsair.

Details on Thailand’s contribution to Japan and their role in WWII are available at the museum. In December 1941 Japanese forces took control of Southern Thailand and Thailand was forced to side with Japan against the two formidable countries that participated in the war, Great Britain and America. In 1942 a year after Japan took charge of the Thai forces, Thai Air Force was assisting the Japanese fighting on their side. Thailand continued to support Japan until the Japanese surrendered in August 1945. For lovers of aerospace the museum provides ample entertainment, you could go right up to the planes and have a look at the controls and the functions of each plane. There are also some amazing paintings of Thai fighter planes such as US B-29, P-51 and P-38s.
