A visit to Wadi (a wadi is a gully that remains dry except during the rainy season) Shab is enough to dispel any preconceived notions one might have about Oman. Those who think that Oman is just another desert nation filled with sand dunes and a few tough species of grass will be pleasantly surprised by the warm aquamarine waters that await them at the Wadi Shab. Situated some forty kilometres southeast of Dibab, the Wadi Shab is a gorgeous haven. Just beyond the entrance visitors will come across beautiful pools of water, gently cascading waterfalls, palm trees and colourful kingfishers.

A popular swimming spot, there are a few underwater caves here that are fun to explore. Visitors should note that some pools are used as a water source by the neighbouring villages and that it is prohibited to swim in these. The wadi is situated in the Tiwi village which is located to the south of Muscat. Those planning on visiting should not forget to take along sunscreen, a hat and a bottle of water. After all, it is a desert region and the heat can be something of a challenge. The place can get pretty crowded especially during public holidays and is best visited during weekdays.

Sharing borders with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Yemen and the United Arab Emirates, Oman is an unlikely tourist destination. For a long time development in the country was at a standstill and Oman was barely accessible to foreigners. However, all that started to change in the 1970s. More money was diverted into developing infrastructure and the tourism industry started to pick up. While the country is barely westernised unlike some of its Middle Eastern counterparts, for tourists who want to experience authentic Arab cuisine and the warmth of Arab hospitality there is no better place to be.

Tourists visiting the country and looking for a good Oman Muscat hotel can try the Millennium Resort Mussanah. Providing gorgeously decorated rooms and warm service it is a terrific place to stay. The Muscat hotel also boasts a convenient location which makes it the ideal choice especially for first time visitors.
