Known to be one of the most peaceful and attractive places in Anuradhapura Isurumuniya is a Buddhist temple with a collection of striking black rocks. Carved out of solid rock, it features several points of interest, Isurumuniya lovers being the highlight. It is a sculpture of two lovers known as Asokamala and Saliya. It is said that Saliya gave up his throne for Asokamala. There is also a large statue of the seated Buddha in the temple.
